ABOUT

On June 12, 1993 Robert Timothy Agurs III was born. He departed this temporal life in preference to life eternal on March 5, 2022. Robert, affectionately known as Baby Rob and Robbie, grew up on the East End. His early childhood days were spent in East Liberty/Larimer in Enright Court where he attended Lincoln Elementary School. His affinity for sports and athletic gift started at age five with little league football at the Kingsley Association. He later moved to Penn Hills where he attended Linton Middle School and Penn Hills High School. It was during this time that Robbie fell in love with and dominated the game of basketball.

Robbie was a standout point guard, fierce competitor and beloved teammate. He was known for his leadership on and off the court. He finished as varsity captain his senior year before he went on to continue his education and play collegiate basketball at Penn State University Beaver. He completed his Junior and Senior seasons at Clarion University. As player of the year and two-time 1st team All-American, his hard work and dedication took him overseas to play with Peppino Cocuzza in Italy. A dreamed deferred, Robbie made the decision to return to Pittsburgh after the birth of his daughter, Isabella. That sacrifice is a true reflection of who he was and what he believed in which was FAMILY OVER EVERYTHING

Robbie’s infectious personality left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He had the best energy and loved living life to the fullest. His positive and encouraging outlook was unmatched. He was and still is a source of joy to all who knew him.

watched our mom and family play spades since I was a little girl. She and her friends would host card parties and play cards until four in the morning. I learned very early how to play. Robbie was a late bloomer, but he eventually learned to play well enough to beat us both at times and became equally competitive—it's like a rite of passage in our family.

This simple game was some of our very best family time. We absolutely love a good game night, and some of our lasting memories with Robbie are those nights we stayed up until four in the morning playing spades, laughing hard, snacking well, and taking turns DJ'ing our favorite jams.

We've been thinking long and hard about how to honor Rob to not only keep his name alive but his special spirit. Creating this fundraiser truly reflects his heart and checks all of the boxes:

  Something joyful

  Something meaningful

  Something competitive

  Something to bring people together

  Something to bless others

Something he would be proud of

He exuded all of the above and so much more.
